Manuel Lemos has a class that does this on his site.
There are also other packages available. Check the code archives.
It mostly consists of opening a socket to port 25, and then reading/writing
the expected values prescribed by SMTP spec.
So, if you were really bored, you could read the SMTP spec and DIY...
