Check out the original "if" statement. Since $i is never used before, it's created in the scope of the IF statement. Therefore it keeps going OUT of scope and being reset to 0 each pass. If you have to use the IF statement, don't init the $i =0 like you can with C++, but instead declare teh $i outside of the IF statement, set it to 0, and then run the IF.
