Trying to differentiation where the link to php should go, based on whether they're online or not. If they're not online, redirect to a static HTML page giving them a message. Maybe by checking the URL of the current page, or by setting an error handler to catch it when the browser can't reach the online site, if that's possible in Javascript. When you start talking about browser-specific issues like what IE3 can't do, I have a lot of confidence in your analysis. Yes, please do send your code.
