php_self and windows

when i do a phpinfo() php_self shows /php/php.exe/phpinfo.php which
really doesn't work very well <g>
Guess what .. we are running under windows. SO the question is .. is
this a limitation of the php/windows/apache environment or is there a
configuration around this.
I have searched all messages for the last couple of months and have
not found and answer .. manual does not mention that php_self doesn't
work very well.
help and advice (other than going to *nix) is greatly appreciated
