pathname for unlink()

Searched archives; no help. I am trying to delete a file located in ANOTHER DIRECTORY than the page with my script on it. Of course I get the error message "Warning: Unlink failed (No such file or directory) in blah, blah blah - the path to the script's directory Do I use fopen()? opendir()?
