Check out the GRANT command in Mysql. You have to give privileges to whom ever is connecting from remote hosts..
so something like
GRANT ALL ON DATABASE.* TO REMOTE_USER IDENTIFIED BY PASSWORD('PASSWORD');
Flush privileges;
that should do it.

Hello, On my home network, I have one machine that runs MySQL. I want this to be my database server. I have another box with PHP and Apache installed on it. I created a file named test.php and attempted to make a connection to the mysql server box: $connection = mysql_connect("192.168.1.2","root","password"); 192.168.1.2 is the IP of the MySQL server box. when I do that, I get the following: Warning: MySQL Connection Failed: Host 'VectraXU' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server in /usr/local/apache/htdocs/test.php on line 2. So, my question is, how can I make the MySQL server allow connections from the machine with the hostname: VectraXU?
