Here's the deal (a mission statement if you will)......
I'm a full time web developer. Creating dynamic sites with PHP is my main
gig and I enjoy learning everything I can about it and also sharing my
experiences with others. To this end I subscribe to several PHP mailing
lists and check out various PHP message boards nearly every day. I enjoy
this interaction but there is a very real limit to the amount of time one
can devote to figuring out why other people's scripts don't work when you
have to get yours working too and still try to learn new things (and get
started on that great idea you had three months ago!).
With this in mind, the goal here is to create a place for general high level
discussion of matters relating to the development of medium to large
applications with PHP - free from the "I can't get some thing to work on
some platform" line of questions. (Don't get me wrong, an outlet for
questions like this is great but there are already many places, such as this
list, to get answers to general help questions.) The conversation needn't be
constricted to just PHP but could easily include any database or server
technologies that a PHP developer uses on a regular basis. PHPbuilder.com,
Zend.com and the various PHP mailing lists offer this to an extent but it is
difficult to keep up with interesting threads due to the high volume of
specific help questions. This forum does not aim to be an outlet for
specific questions but for open discussion relating to broader PHP topics.
What it boils down to is that everyone is busy. Everyone needs to learn new
stuff. New stuff is difficult to learn when you have to spend a long time
finding it. This is a place to learn new stuff and not spend a lot of time
doing it. I hope it makes your life easier. Simple, eh?
