The guys behind PHP are finally going to be selling products for real money, which should help insure the future of PHP. Sounds good. But a question remains, what's the pricing going to be. Keep on reading for what little birds have to say. Since their entire business rests on this issue, the folks at Zend have no doubt done some extensive empirical market research. Consider this a poor mans attempt at the same. Little (and not so little) birds whisper that the Zend Cache will run $2,000 per processor, and the Zend Compiler $6,000 per station. That price seems a bit steep. It would be a shame if the folks at Zend couldn't capitalize on the interest in PUP, and just as unfortunate if the users of PHP couldn't use the Cache or Compiler. So what price makes the most sense for both Zend and its users? Let's take a look at Zend Cache. We can't justify purchasing it at $2,000 a pop, but we'd probably be happy to purchase at $500 a processor, heck we'd purchase 24 copies. If Zend can sell 4 times as many copies of Zend Cache at $500 as it can at $2,000 the profits are the same, but more people are able to take advantage of the technology. Here's where you come in: Drop me a note with the price you could justify spending for Zend Cache, and the quantity you'd expect to purchase along with any thoughts you may have. The pricing options for the Cache are: $2,000 $1,000 $500 $250 $100 Prices are per processor. I'll summarize and synthesis, and share back the results of this little informal survey, and we can see if their is anything interesting to be gleaned. August Please be sure to CC me your price/quantity directly, or I'm likely to miss a few of them.
