I think you mean:
http://user:CdfnB6m99.L92@domain.com
This allows the user/password to access domain.com with their authentication
as part of the URL.
It is not an email address.

I think that if you move the password as described above, you will get two
variables:
$PHP_AUTH_USER
$PHP_AUTH_PW
and you do not need to use strtok or anything like that to get them. They
just appear.
