Is it possible to POST from PHP? [cURL?]

Ok, my question first started as another thread, and now I need to solve this problem. Is there any way to send a POST request to a URL from PHP? Joe Stump recommended that I look at cURL. In fact it does allow post, however from the best of my reading it requires I recompile PHP with cURL. Is this outdated, does php4 come with curl functions built in? Because of the fact that I would need to recompile PHP, and that I could not find any helpful documentation on POSTing with cURL, I am begging that someone knows a slick way of POSTing to a script through PHP without cURL. If PHP now has builtin support for cURL, anyone have any snipets of code for posting with it? Thanks a billion. Jason
