I've tried it before and it didn't work. If someone knows how to do it,
please share.

I'm curious. I've installed Oracle on several Linux boxes, and as far
as I can tell, except for two files in /etc it puts all files into it's
home (and database) directories. So what would prevent me from doing
an install on a development system, tarring up the directories (and
files from /etc) and untarring that onto the production server?
