what about something like this (off the top of my head
and untested):
function nr2arr( &$nr )
{
$x = array() ;
if( settype( $nr , 'string' ) ) {
for( $i = 0 ; $i < strlen( $nr ) ; $i++ ) {
$x[] = $nr[ $i ] ;
}
$nr = $x ;
return true ;
}
return false ;
}
