php4 v4l module?

Does anyone have a way to have php4 interface with v4l? I'm looking for
something very simplistic like vidcat from the xawtv package for use under
php4 control.
I'm asking before I start butchering the vidcat + php4 code in an attempt
to hack my own php function call out :)
The end goal I'm after is that php4 should be able to open a v4l device,
snag a still image, close the device, and make that image available to the
image*() functions provided by php4 already.
