I suspect that it has to do with the content of the page that received the
form submission and/or how your browser is interpreting it. When the page
comes up fine when just hitting your browser's back button is you're looking
at the page from the cache on your computer rather than reloading it from the
server. BUT, if your browser decides it doesn't want to look at the cached
version, it asks the server to reload the page, and since hitting the back
button doesn't submit the form info, you get stuck with having to go back and
resubmit the form.
Now, the question is WHY the page and/or your browser are looking to reload
the page rather than read it from cache. Could have to do with your
browser's preferences and/or the header/meta info sent by the web page.
