addslashes

Hi Let me explain my problem. I want to put some binary data in a longblob field. I have a text file in a variable "$file" and want to compress this data and put it in a MySQL longblob field. This is what i did. ==>$file = fread(textfile,'r') ==>$file = addslashes(gzcompress($file,9)); followed by a query to insert it in the database. Sometimes this is not working. Netscape is returning that the page dit not return anything. After searching for the problem I found that the function addslashes is the problem of it all. If someone knows a way to work around this problem I would realy like to know. best regards Mark van der Putten.
