It would be very helpful if someone who knows the theory and practice of PHP4 Sessions would write a document with complete examples about PHP4 Sessions. If by some miracle I figure it all out before someone writes this document (unlikely :( ), then I will write it myself.
Document sections could include:
o Using Sessions with Cookies
. With --enable-trans-sid
. Without --enable-trans-sid
o Using Sessions without Cookies
. With --enable-trans-sid
. Without --enable-trans-sid
o Controlling the Session
. Managing Session Life
. Managing Session Variables
Example code could be a simple login/authentication form that leads to a menu form, which leads to a couple of action forms. Authentication could be a simple database lookup in whatever dbms the document author feels like using. Main Menu should pass some information to action forms (just for further demonstration of session state management and variable use.)
As an aside, I'm not interested in seeing ways of implementing sessions using methods OTHER than the PHP4 Session functionality. LIBPHP and phpminiauth both show this (especially phpminiauth for simple example.)
I'm very interested in understanding the theory and practice of PHP4 Sessions. Ideally one of the original authors of the code would write this. I realize they are probably very busy, but the energy they have spent writing the session code has been wasted on a system that is largely unused and poorly understood. Hopefully this will change.
Many thanks,
Michael Teter
