php 4.0.x problems

I'm running Mandrake Linux 7.0 and trying to compile php 4.0.3pl1 as a
module for apache. I compile it as follows:
$ ./configure --with-apxs --with-mysql --prefix=/usr
$ make install
It compiles and installs fine and I alter the httpd.conf and copy over
the php.ini-dist to /usr/lib/php. But as soon as I start httpd I get a
segmentation fault. Any ideas???
