Follow-up to some earlier posts:
This seems to be tied into the ob_gzhandler setting in php.ini, in the
simplest case, removing that directive allows php 4.0.4 to be compiled and
run with zlib.
I hope to see a fully robust version of 4.0.4 out sometime soon.
