Compiling PHP4

When I use the following configure commands I get the results below the command:
./configure '--prefix=/usr' '--with-apxs=/usr/sbin/apxs'
'--with-config-file-path=/etc/httpd/conf' '--enable-safe-mode'
'--with-exec-dir=/usr/bin' '--with-system-regex' '--disable-debug'
'--with-zlib' '--with-gdbm' '--with-db2' '--enable-debugger'
'--enable-magic-quotes' '--enable-track-vars' '--enable-sysvsem'
'--enable-sysvshm' '--enable-track-vars' '--with-ftp'
Results from make:(last 5 lines)
main.lo: file not recognized: File truncated

Anyone know what I need to change to make the build work properly?
Using Redhat 6 and Apache 1.3.X on Cobalt RAQ3
