I've tried to avoid spamming these lists, but I thought the members of
the community would like to know that PHPBuilder is finally back after
three devastating days.
For those of you who don't know, I took the opportunity in February to
sell PHPBuilder to internet.com. I've been on a different path, working
for VA Linux and SourceForge for a year now and welcomed the chance to
unload the burden.
Amazingly, not one backup of PHPBuilder had ever been made in the last
several months that internet.com has owned the site, and of course they
learned that only after a hard disk failed. The only thing left was the
PHP code which I kept on a CVS server in Iowa.
This was a really sad event for me as I have invested so much in the
site over the past year and a half.
I hope that the community that has built up around the site has not been
totally destroyed, as I suspect it has.
So let this be a lesson to every developer here - never let anyone else
backup what you can back up yourself, and, more importantly, never ever
trust that an IS department has any idea what the hell they're doing.
