Zend optimizer works and its free :)
64mb ram is small when it comes to servers hosting web / php / mysql ram is
cheap now 256mb ram for $161 cdn thats cheap. 64mb will be a hog, everything
will crawl, boost your ram before your processor. play with
/usr/local/bin/mysql.server (could be elsewhere)
edit the buffers and such. play with httpd.conf's performance settings, then
download one of hundreds of load testers and have a go at it. you can write
a simple script yourself to see.
if your worried more about bandwidth limitations rather then processor/ram
limitations look into mod_gzip, I dont think it does dynamic pages, for that
write your own
ob_start("compress_output");
function and start playing there.
Thats all I do, but im sure the welth of knowlage here will be able toa dd
to this, and for my sake, I hope they do :)

Hi,
First of all, thanks to everyone on this list who greatly helped me
developing a database driven website with PHP in an incredibly short delay.
PHP is certainly a very good tool.
Now that my site is up and running I have some concerns about the
performance I can expect from it. Here is my case. The main part of the site
is a powerful web hosting search engine, using a mysql database with
persistent connections. There is also a simple ad rotation script based on
digi-fx very simple one, all data is in a mysql database with persistent
connection here too. It has to deliver 6 ads per pages, plus it tracks
clicks. Finally I have a log function that saves various info about the page
being viewed in a mysql db once again. All these infos probably doesn't
really matter, I just want to say that I make a good use of mysql database
in the site. The server is a very basic Celeron 500 mhz with 64 MB of RAM
running apache and PHP as a module, there is not much else going on on it..
Anybody got an idea (approx) of how much pageviews it could deliver before I
experience problems?
Also, I am using Persistent Connections, can this be a problem. I know
that this means each apache process will connect only once to mysql, what
happens if there is no mysql connections available? Also, I am using 2
databases, would it be better to have all the tables in only one? (I.E.,
does PHP will make 2 persistent connection per apache process, one for each
DB?)
What about Zend products. Anybody could give me his opinion on the
Optimizer? Is it good?
Thank you for any comments on this. By the way feel free to visit my
site if you're looking for a place to host your website. You can search for
hosts supporting PHP easily :) http://www.hostswatch.com/
Thank you!
