Problem passing form parameters

Hi all,
I have a very simple form with a text field but when I submit it the parameter is not passed. Also if I call something like http://myserver.com/myfile.php?myvar=test I can't print myvar (i.e. echo $myvar;) because $myvar is empty.
This happened after installing GD. I have installed PHP 4.0.4 without GD support and the problem persists. Any idea?
