number_format bug?

Hi,
I use php-4.0.0 with redhat 6.2 and the apache 1.3.12 shipped with it.
I experience a weird bug... when I use number_format it RANDOMLY zeroes
the decimal. Sometimes it does sometimes it doesn't. I encontered the
same problem in php 4 RC version, and when i upgraded to 4.0.0 I though
the bug was corrected, but it eventually came out!!
It's terrible when you deal with ecommerce sites!
Could anyone give me information about this bug?
