Hi Oliver.
Whatever interface You shoose to access the DBase Server with, You
will still need some code to do the serious queries and processing of the
data returned. PHP is fully functional in using ODBC-calls as well, which
makes it a good thing to stick with as You then have a concurrent syntax
and development-platform to work with. :-)
An alternative is to use PERL::DBI which also has a ODBC-module.
Just keep in mind that if You plan to use the ODBC-connectivity for DBase as
a
permanent solution, performance and features will decrease due to the
generic
nature of ODBC. You will also need an apropriate driver for the
ODBC<->DBase-
translation. This would probably be supplied by the manufacturer of the
database-engine
if You choose to implement the server on a Win32-machine. It can be a bit
trickier to
find a driver for UNIX.
!Utilizing the native lagnuage of the database is always the quickest and
most potent
way to perfom transactions within the database! ;-)
Happy hacking,
Henrik J.
P.S. All information You´ll need to get started is in the excellent
php-manual online:
http://www.php.net/manual/ref.odbc.php
