$PHP_AUTH_USER, $PHP_AUTH_PW and $PHP_AUTH_TYPE

Hi!!!
I'm trying to set the $PHP_AUTH_USER and $PHP_AUTH_PW
environment variables with putenv(), but it does not work.
I'm using php as an apache module and I don't know how to
set this variables. It's possible to set them with
$PHP_AUTH_USER=value, etc, but then php does not recognize
them as environmental variables and I cannot get them from
other script. Somebody knows how to set this variables in a
php script?
