That's the point - why do I have to have 'name="myArray[]"'. Why
do I have to specify the '[]'s at all?

You don't have to specify them as "PHP arrays". You can do something like: <input type=text name="myArray[]"> <input type=text name="myArray[]"> <input type=text name="myArray[]"> <input type=text name="myArray[]"> PHP will create the array for you.
