We use something like this to changing some sections
of the web page based on the day of the year
#day number of the year, ex day 181, 183, 183
$subPartQuery=date("z")";
or
# day of the week 0=sunday mon=1, tue=3
$subPartQuery=date("w")";
select from database where day_col = $subPartQuery
etc. etc.
you have to double check the mysql syntax
