Jeff: You're talking about sessions, for the most part. Sessions are nice, as you can efficiently handle things like arrays with 10,000 items of 200 bytes each without doing something extremely stupid like sending the user The Cookie From Hell (assuming a 2M cookie is even legal - I forget if there is any limit or not). Something like that is great when you're paging through results. Hope this has helped.
