The fix would be to dig into PHP4 source, run some tests and figure out why
mysql_pconnect() is broken. I am CC'ing this to the PHP list to see if somebody
has already been able to duplicate ( and possibly fix) the problem.
Quick summary for the PHP guys -- mysql_pconnect() under some curcumstances does
not seem to re-use the already established connection, and tries to open a new
one in PHP 4.0.1pl1.
