You could read the file back and compare byte by byte, or get the ftp
server to compute md5, crc, or any number of other checksum/signature type
data, and compute the same algorithm in PHP to compare...
It's possible that FTP servers can, if asked, compute checksums and even
possible that PHP, if configured/asked could do that as well...
I don't really know either way of this is already happening, but it might
be a done deal.
