The APIs that PHP is using for databases is *probably* mostly stuff from
C-code the database manufacturers with some PHP stuff wrapped around it.
In other words, the C code you want is probably in the SDKs provided by
the database manufacturers. The PHP code might be instructive with
regards to how to use the functions, or even some pitfalls and gotchas,
but I'd be looking for the code from the db manufacturers as my first
integration code-base...
Disclaimer: I'm only theorizing here, based on my scant knowledge of how
these things work...
