stripping tags with regex ?

I have this
<image>...</image>
or
<image left>...</image>
or
<image right>...</image>
or
<image top>...</image>
I want to strip the all that out of my text. I havent a clue about regex, I wish I did. could I get
some insight, even a site to learn a little more. ? thanks
