True...but I used the same php.ini as with php4.0.4pl1, so the location of all files is identical. If I don't specify a location in 4.0.4pl1, why should i need one in 4.0.5rc6? In theory if it's been working with no change since 4.0.3, I don't see why once again compiling with identical options would make a difference. But, yes, changing the sock location does fix the problem, I just wonder why it is only rearing it's head in the new version. Thanks!
