Woops, you can even do this:
$toast = array("wheat", "rye", "pumpernickel");
$numbreads = count($toast);
for ($index = 0; $index < $numbreads; $index++) {
${"column" . $index} = $toasts[$index];
}
(A little less code and one less variable required.)
