Assuming you are running linux...
Just remove the "--with-apache", from the ./configure statement... should look
something like this
# ./configure [DIRECTIVES] [--with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql]
# make
# make install
Should install to:
# /usr/local/bin/php
then you can run scripts by:
# /usr/local/bin/php /path/to/script/scriptname
