datetime on MSSQL doesn't work with PHP

why does PHP converts the 'datetime' and 'smalldatetime' types of MSSQL to a 'prettier' output?
in the table I have '2001-07-01 12:45:01' but when I run a query in PHP to get it I recieve 'Jul 7 2001 12:45AM'.
I didn't ask for that... I want the exact value in the field with seconds and all, not a converted value. How can I prevent this?
