Yes. As an example, Oingo.com allows you to access their web directory and
search engine using XML. For one of our clients, I wrote a PHP script which
retrieves the appropriate XML file, formats it, and puts the output into a
table cell from a template.
(The code Oingo provided is a really nasty Perl CGI. No XML parser or
anything, just a bunch of regular expressions. The PHP is a LOT cleaner.)
