sendmail scripts -which user?

I would like to use the PHP Mail() function. I know
that my script that uses it works, because I have used
it on another server.
But there seems to be a problem with sendmail, and
whether I can send email as an anonymous user
(noboby).
Anyone have any thoughts on this one?
