SSH to all of them always even if you have a login machine at the data
center. DON'T TRUST ANYONE.

That aside, it's just plain easier to use the same protocols to all
machines. Use openssh too, no fees to pay, and still plenty secure. Don't
use ssh1, use ssh2 + DSA keys. Once your logged in, it's not so bad.
