if i understand your question correctly, this should help...
name the buttons different things
<INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" NAME="action" VALUE="This">
<INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" NAME="action" VALUE="That">
<INPUT TYPE="SUBMIT" NAME="action" VALUE="Other">
then, even thought the form is posted to one place,
you can determine which button the user pressed by
checking the value of $action;
