Problems with Fileupload

Hi! I want to upload images into a database like described in http://www.php.net/manual/features.file-upload.php On my own server it works fine but the provider disabled the fileaccess in /tmp so I'm not able to access the uploaded file for storing into database. Is there any possibility to upload the file dirctly into a variable or something like this?
