switch with html

Hi, How do I call on a switch from within an html-embedded page? Say I have a large php script that first verifies a login, then allows templates for INSERTING, UPDATING, & DELETING various records-- I need to have separate templates load for each set of steps, but I only have the vaguest of ideas as to how I can activate the CASE required just by using links/submits (the biggest issue being that vars have to pass through various parts).
