Does the Java Applet decompress, or the browser?...
PHP4 can compress it okay, but who's going to decompress?
To compress PHP4 output itself, use output-buffering feature.
To compress some other file, check for a built-in gz function (that's
--with-zlib, right?) or use exec('gzip ...');
