You're right when you say that you shouldn't put an echo before the header.. however I did that just so I could see if I would get the error "All headers have been sent" and well I didn't get that error... I didn't get any error message.. so I thought that was strange and that's why I'm here asking this question because I really don't know what's going on.. I have checked the web server error log and when I call the header function it tries to redirect me to a ".php" file (notice there is no file name). So I'm not sure what exactly is going on.
