You have to compile PHP a second time without the --with-apxs
(or --with-apache).
If you still have your PHP source code, just copy config.nice to config.cgi,
and edit it to remove the --with-apxs line.
Then do
make clean
./config.cgi
make
You'll get a binary file called "php" which you can throw in /usr/bin and
use it just like Perl, only better :-)
