I don't understand what you're doing, but you do know that stdout is
generally bound to the browser, so you're probably spewing whatever
swf_openfile() does to the browser... Right?

Correct. swf_openfile() is supposed to open a flash stream (maybe not
the right term, but you get the idea). swf_openfile("php://stdout"...)
would output flash directly to the browser as opposed to
swf_openfile("test.swf"...) which would write to a file that gets
downloaded by the browser. I have no problems whatsoever creating files
with swf_openfile(), php://stdout doesn't play well with it, though.
