I haven't looked into it very deeply, but I believe they pretty much do what
you are doing, except I don't think that actually store the session
persistant variables in a database, but probably just a file. It would be
fairly easy to do your own session management, but its always good when you
can use something thats already done :)
So, if you have already implemented it, I don't think the PHP4 sessions will
provide you much more, though storing variables into a database every page
might be a bit slow. But like I said, I haven't looked into all the
functionality that deeply, so there could be more there than I know.
