I replied back to the list on this topic last week, as have others - there's probably a bit more in the archives. In a nutshell, tho, we are using Linux to talk to a SQL7 box here in the office. Apache 1.3.12 PHP4 - snapshot version from 2 weeks ago FreeTDS (snapshot from freetds.org - read there or contact me how to get it. The standard version on their site doesn't work for what we need). Compile freetds with ver 4.2 Compile PHP --with-sybase=/usr/local/freetds (or wherever it compiled to) Compile Apache with PHP. Use MSSQL functions. We were forced into using the snapshot version of PHP, as the pl1 didn't work (haven't tried pl2 I don't believe). Basically, we'd get a lot of zend_variable hash issues, which chewed up the apache log file, and eventually PHP would stop working. The snapshot seemed to fix nearly everything - I hope nothing changes back in newer releases! :) We occasionally still get segfaults in Apache/PHP, and I can't be sure who the problem lies with - PHP or FreeTDS. This happens perhaps .5% of PHP page requests. Not rock solid, but at the moment we can live with it. We're hoping future versions resolve these segfault issues. Freetds is still beta, and the PHP bug people don't seem to want to look into too many problems related to it - understandably of course. However, I lean towards there being problems on the PHP side somewhat, because newer versions of PHP now work, and the FreeTDS codebase I'm using hasn't changed in over a month.
