We had a lot of problems putting up to work our connection with oracle as well. First of all you should try to login as oracle user (i suppose you created this account in the web server) in the linux web server and enter this line $sqlplus username@DB_NAME Then sqlplus will ask you for the password By default when you create a database user:pass are system:manager Then try to enter some SQL lines (DESC or CREATE TABLE...) If you cant do this watch the permisions of all the home/oracle tree. There is a bug in the instalation process of Oracle in Linux. Make sure that all the directory tree has reading permision for all (user, group and others) Hope this helps. Let me know. ----- Original Message ----- From: Michael McConnell <michael@mail.vocalcommerce.com> To: Jacob Hanson / Electric Lucidity <php-general@lists.php.net> Sent: Thursday, July 13, 2000 7:19 PM Subject: [PHP] PHP & Oracle I'm having a terrible time interfacing from PHP 4.0 to an Windows NT based Oracle 8.1.5 Enterprise database server. I have compiled PHP 4.0 with Apache and OCI8 Support, but when I do the simple command <? ociinternaldebug(1); $connect = ocilogon("user","pass","database"); I get this error Warning: _oci_open_server: Error while trying to retrieve text for error OCA_12546 in /www/htdocs/site.com/oci8.php4 on line 3 OCIDebug: _oci_open_server: FAILURE -> CLEANUP called OCIDebug: START )oci_close_server detaching conn=0 dbname=database OCIDebug: oci_do_connect: FAILURE -> CLEANUP called OCIDebug: START _oci_conn_list_dtor: id=0 OCIDebug: END _oci_conn_list_dtor: id=0 I have the PHP box setup with Oracle 8.1.6 Client, PHP 4.0l2 and Apache 1.3.12, Oracle support has been compiled into PHP. I can do a tnsping from the PHP box to the database I want, but yet... I can't seem to make a PHP interface. Does anyone have any insite? Thanks so much Michael McConnell
