The thing is that correctly using text files is much more difficult than using a simple SQL engine like MySQL or PostgreSQL. The biggest problem being file locking. If you have a script that writes to a text file then that script needs to lock the file to prevent somebody else from writing to it at the same time. And inserting records forces you to rewrite the entire file from the insertion point onwards.
